I suspected as much.

Have some people solved this one privately by PM?

If not, does the connection between the birds relate to
a) their physical characteristics
b) their habits

If a - is the physical characteristic their eye rings and/or anything to do with goggles?

If b - can we have another hint. The sprinkler system, woodpecker & shrike are all beyond my ken. The only thing they have in common is the letter K.

Given today's weather (@ NS560650), would one have performed beforehand?

Remember emm, that besides the sprinkler system, the British Green Woodpecker, and the Australian Shrike there is also the, Australian Channel-bill and Jamaican Cuckoo.

And no, I have not PM'ed Myth Jellies at all in relation to this riddle.

Royalty + suits = cards - hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades
Spades comes from the Spanish espada meaning sword
Shrikes and woodpeckers have sharp beaks for stabbing things
A sword is kept in a scabbard = jacket which could be inscribed

......oo0oo Grub Family Ceremonial Sword oo0oo......

LOL:D There is a much better fit for an inscribed jacket than a weapon.

emm has PM'ed me and she has an answer.

So Myth Jellies, is the answer to:

I am an unusual juxtaposition of categories for my type.

Rainbird:?:

Which is the name given to the British Green Woodpecker, the Australian Shrike, the Australian Channel-bill and the Jamaican Cuckoo.
Because they start to sing just before a rain storm.

Rainbird is also the name of the company that maufactures sprinkler systems.

Rainbird is also a software label owned by Microprose which released the Formula One Grand Prix games, which ties in with the racing car angle.

I think Rainbird was employed as a special agent of sorts. Similar to a private eye.

How about:

Firestarter 2 - Rekindled (2002)

Plot Synopsis: Charlie McGee is a young woman with the unwanted and often uncontrollable gift of pyrokinesis, lighting fires by mere thought. Charlie has been in hiding for nearly all her life from a top-secret government fringe group headed by the maniacal John Rainbird, who wants to find and use Charlie as the ultimate weapon of war. Vincent is a young private investigator unwittingly sent to look for Charlie, and evenutally tries to help her escape from Rainbird, who has formed a group of young boys from other research projects -- each with different special abilities -- in a plot to take over the world.

You have John Rainbird correct, but not the correct work of art.
