OK, this little puppy jumped into my lap right after I switched things around, and it seemed to stay there even after I tested by switching back... ;-)

Code: Select all

I like to contribute this sudoku:

Code: Select all
. . .|. 9 .|8 . .
. . .|. 5 3|9 . 7
. . 1|4 . .|. . .
-----+-----+-----
6 . .|. . 2|. 9 .
. 5 .|. . .|. 6 .
. 4 .|5 . .|. . 2
-----+-----+-----
. . .|. . 4|7 . .
8 . 3|9 1 .|. . .
. . 7|. 3 .|. . .

It requires a hidden triple and 2 pairs, so it qualifies.

But try to solve this manually. You'll be amazed how narrow the solving path is. An interesting twist maybe for our remaining superiors.

Can be solved with pairs and locked candidates!

I'll be posting the rankings shortly, I've revised the formula as follows reducing some of the bias toward the hidden triple:
Code: Select all
Hidden Triple*6+XWing*3+Naked triple*2+Hidden double*2+Naked double

The minimum for entry was a score of 3, but as the thread progressed the bab should rise slightly, I'm setting it at 4 now for entry, therefore the following puzzles that were posted since my last update will not make the list (although superiors):Vidar's #1, Ruud's #2, vidar's #3

I was impressed, as many others would be by vidar's #4, it has EVERYTHING, & will definitely score highly in the rankings.

ab,
The 3rd of your puzzles is missing a line.

Whoops sorry, I've fixed that.

vidarino's latest puzzles are indeed excellent (#77 and #78 on the new list).

just a correction, I just made a small miscalculation, as you puzzles only needed an x-wing ab, the score would be 3 which is below the bar at the moment as we pass the 75 mar so all 3 will not join the list as will Vidar's #3.

One more from me....
Code: Select all

Here is the replacement for #21:

Code: Select all
7 . .|. . .|. 5 .
. 6 .|. . .|. 4 8
. . 3|4 5 .|. . .
-----+-----+-----
. . .|8 . .|6 . 5
. . .|. 3 .|. . .
8 . 2|. . 7|. . .
-----+-----+-----
. . .|. 9 2|1 . .
9 4 .|. . .|. 8 .
. 1 .|. . .|. . 9

I found an X-Wing, a hidden pair and 2 hidden triples. At least one of the hidden triples is required.

I think this one contains a hidden triple, in addition to the x-wing.
Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | . 5 . | . . . |
| . . 6 | . . . | 7 . . |
| . 8 . | 4 . 7 | . 3 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 5 | . 7 . | 4 . . |
| 8 . . | 5 . 9 | . . 2 |
| . . 2 | . 6 . | 8 . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 7 . | 9 . 3 | . 5 . |
| . . 8 | . . . | 1 . . |
| . . . | . 2 . | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+

This should have two x-wings, a hidden double and to doubles.
Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| 5 . . | 8 . . | . 9 . |
| . . 1 | . 7 5 | . . . |
| . . 9 | . . 3 | . . 8 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 8 . . | . . . | . 5 . |
| . 2 5 | . . . | 3 8 . |
| . 4 . | . . . | . . 6 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 4 . . | 3 . . | 2 . . |
| . . . | 1 2 . | 8 . . |
| . 1 . | . . 6 | . . 4 |
+-------+-------+-------+

Also two x-wings:
Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| 6 . 5 | . . . | 1 . 7 |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
| . . 9 | 3 7 . | . . 6 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 5 . 7 | 9 1 . | . . 3 |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
| 8 . . | . 2 7 | 9 . 4 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 9 . . | . 8 1 | 7 . . |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
| 3 . 4 | . . . | 2 . 8 |
+-------+-------+-------+

This one might have 2 naked triples, in addition to several doubles, plus an x-wing.
Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| 3 . . | . . . | . . 9 |
| . . 1 | . . . | 6 . . |
| . 8 . | 6 . 7 | . 2 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 9 | . 8 . | 3 . . |
| . . . | 4 . 1 | . . . |
| . . 7 | . 2 . | 4 . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 1 . | 5 . 3 | . 4 . |
| . . 8 | . . . | 5 . . |
| 2 . . | . . . | . . 7 |
+-------+-------+-------+

An x-wing, plus a little bit extra.
Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | . . 9 | 7 . . |
| . . . | . 3 . | 5 4 9 |
| . . . | 7 2 . | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 4 . | . . . | 3 7 6 |
| . 6 . | . . . | . 2 . |
| 7 5 1 | . . . | . 9 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | . 1 8 | . . . |
| 3 1 6 | . 9 . | . . . |
| . . 2 | 4 . . | . . . |

The triples aren't needed, though the x-wing is.

Puzzles that require at least 2 triples to be resolved seem remarkably hard to find. I don't think there are any examples in tarek's list that require 2 hidden triples, for example.

Here are three more from me, which, unless I'm mistaken, all require at least one hidden triple (I find two in each the first two, but I haven't checked if both are required) + an X-Wing or two;

Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | . 4 . | . . . |
| . . 8 | 6 . 2 | 9 . . |
| . 5 . | 8 . 1 | . 4 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 4 3 | . . . | 8 5 . |
| 2 . . | . 1 . | . . 3 |
| . 8 5 | . . . | 6 2 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 2 . | 7 . 9 | . 3 . |
| . . 9 | 4 . 6 | 2 . . |
| . . . | . 2 . | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+

+-------+-------+-------+
| 6 . 4 | 5 . 2 | 7 . 9 |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
| 9 . . | 7 . 8 | . . 2 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 8 . 3 | 2 . 4 | 1 . 7 |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
| 7 . 9 | 1 . 5 | 2 . 8 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 3 . . | 4 . 1 | . . 6 |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
| 2 . 7 | 9 . 3 | 8 . 4 |
+-------+-------+-------+

+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 4 | 5 . 6 | 1 . . |
| . 3 . | . . . | . 5 . |
| 6 . . | 2 . 3 | . . 4 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 1 . 8 | 3 . 7 | 6 . 2 |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
| 7 . 2 | 6 . 9 | 3 . 1 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 3 . . | 1 . 5 | . . 7 |
| . 2 . | . . . | . 1 . |
| . . 1 | 9 . 2 | 8 . . |
+-------+-------+-------+

Feel free to scrap my three lowest ranking ones to make room for these, if they measure up.:)

Wow -- that neatly debunks my previous statement: your first grid is the only example so far of a puzzle that needs 2 hidden triples to be resolved. Oh, and an x-wing.
