Anything goes, but keep it seemly...

"Do you want me to hack your legs to bits with my machete or would you rather show me the way?"

(alternatively it could be that Egyptian tomb guardian thing about asking one Horis-type guy which way the other one would tell him not to go that I think was in an old - but soon-to-be-repeated - episode of either Doctor Who or The Tomorrow People)

First you said "cities" and then it becomes "village" in the end...:?:

Anyway I'll use "places" to avoid confusion...

Assuming the man is from one of the places, just ask him, "Which road leads to the place where you're from?"

"The road you came from."

Maybe you should point to one of the roads and ask:

Does this road lead to your home village?

Good consideration once again, Ruud.

I originally wanted to be polite and say, "Could you please point me to the place/city/village where you come from?", but I realised a lying man could simply say, "No I can't."... Guess I still haven't been careful enough...

Guess sometimes it hurts to be polite... Perhaps underquack's approach could be more effective...:)

"What is the way to your village?" Then take that route. If he is a True-guy he will tell truth and if a lier then he will point not to his village but to the true one. Then hack his legs off.

If he is a lier, he can point in any direction other than the correct one. There is one truth here, but many lies.

Make sure you ask him a yes/no question.

Ruud.

Perhaps I could borrow underquark's machete and add this bit after my original question:

udosuk wrote:Which road leads to the place where you're from?
Note I'll hack your legs to bits if I spot that you're trying to muck around with me...

Perhaps the bloke would be more helpful then...

See sometimes a little bit of brute force approach wouldn't hurt...:D

"The Pyramids of Mars" and I think it was "Horus", not Horis (or Horrace).

If he is from the True place he will answer truthfully "Yes". If he is from the village of the liars he will lie and say "Yes".

Point down one road and ask "Is that the way to your village?". True man will answer Yes if it is and No if it is not. False man will answer in the opposite. Either way, head down the road that gets a "Yes" or the road that doesn't get a "No" and you will reach the True village.
