Hi apt,

I am to young in that game to comment on the "best strategy". What is for sure is that without the bonus for rarity, it is dangerous to open a new ER to early.

Even with the bonus rarity, if the pattern is supposed to generate Diamonds, the rarity strategy can pay only at the start of the game (say as long as the bonus for a trumped rarity is higher that the ordinal of the submission), preferably in low ER's. But still, it can push to nicer fights.
