JasonLion assumed control about 5 years ago:

g.r.emlin was recently moved to one of my servers, which should increase reliability in the long term, but may cause glitches in the short run.

Is it possible for Pat_Moderator to 'kill' g.r.emlin and then let him back in again?

We know g.r.emlin is still logged in, but not the state it's in! running, stopped, hung, crashed.
Or displaying a message like 'Log file full' or 'Not enough resources to process ::: patterns ::: request' and then 'Press Enter to continue.'
These are mostly speculations because I dont really know what happened during February when the forum was not available for a few days.

I dont think banning or deactivating g.r.emlin will solve anything, it will likely keep retrying forever! Or never if not running.
The web server (Apache), database (probably mySQL), forum (phpBB) and g.r.emlin (Korn Shell) are processes running in the Unix box,
so requires the owner/Admin to (remotely) login to the server to stop/start any of these.

but I dont think g.r.emlin is in running state, i.e. waking up every 10 mins to check on new posts and process them.
Over a week ago, I sent g.r.emlin the seed puzzle of the last Patterns Game, it is still in my Outbox, g.r.emlin's Inbox!
And it did not respond to the 1st ::: patterns ::: request, nor to the 2nd one by coloin over a week ago.
My own view is that g.r.emlin is comatose, and will not respond to any actions done on the phpBB side.

I got this message from the new owner Ms White:

"We are aware of it (gremlin situation), and we are working to solve the problem.
The transition has been a lot more difficult than we thought it would be.

They appear to inhabit a different world. At some point, the server will require maintenance or there'll be a power failure, then everything will/may spring back into life and g.r.emlin may live again.
