Interesting here are the mutable clues r1c56, r7c9 and r8c3 where you can downgrade this three-spoke-wheel

If pappocom would endow a sudoku-design-prize here, this sudoku surely would win a medal because of it's simple elegance and even structure. It is far more easy to design 19-clue-sudokus with a diagonal symmetry but one with horizontal one. As far as I know, 19 is the minimal clue-number from which on you can do some horizontal symmetry. Correct me if this statement is overhauled now. It reminds me of the brain-like seeds of the walnut. Chapeau!

Merci, je suis très flatté...:)

Right, there are some examples in this thread.

I don't know.
Actually, I was trying to make a 19 clues puzzle with horizontal (vertical) symmetry and with boxes without "diagonal clues".
A pattern like this one :

Code: Select all
 . . x . x . x . .
 . . x . x . x . .
 . . . . x . . . .
 . . . . . . . . .
 x . . . . . . . x
 x . . x . x . . x
 . . . x . x . . .
 . x . . . . . x .
 . x . . . . . x .

unsuccessfully:(

JPF, truly brilliant. My own puny attempt at your pattern also met with failure: the closest I got was this 20-clue puzzle.
Code: Select all
 . . 1 . . . 2 . .
 . . 3 . 4 . 5 . .
 . . . . 6 . . . .
 . . . . . . . . .
 2 . . . . . . . 4
 3 . . 7 . 1 . . 9
 . . . 8 2 6 . . .
 . 4 . . . . . 5 .
 . 6 . . 9 . . 1 .

I'm calling it a day, now.

Here's a 20-clues puzzle with non diagonal boxes :

I finally got it:)

Here is a 19 clues-puzzle with vertical symmetry and non diagonal boxes :

Code: Select all
 . . 1 | . . . | 2 . .
 . . 3 | . 4 . | 5 . .
 . . . | . 6 . | . . .

 . 7 . | . . . | . 1 .

a double diagonal symmetric 19clue-pattern

And I try to make the following pattern:
Code: Select all
. . . . x . . . x
. . . x . . . x .
. . x . . . x . .
. x . . . x . . .
x . . . x . . . x
. . . x . . . x .
. . x . . . x . .
. x . . . x . . .
x . . . x . . . .
I'm down to 59 solutions now. But it's cursed.:(

I don't think that pattern has a sudoku; according to my experiments, it is highly unlikely. I have generated ~15000 non equivalent sudokus with the following pattern:

Code: Select all
x . . . x . . . x
. . . x . . . x .
. . x . . . x . .
. x . . . x . . .
x . . . x . . . x
. . . x . . . x .
. . x . . . x . .
. x . . . x . . .
x . . . x . . . .

none of them has r1c1 as a redundant clue, several of them have r5c5 as a redundant clue, though.

Maybe Claudia could publish her 59-solution version so that we can undertake a search in near sudoku space (unless she's done that already).

I know I am not Claudia. I just did a quick search in my list, these sudokus have only 2 solutions (unless my program let me down):

Code: Select all
