two hooves

Postby claudiarabia » Thu May 03, 2007 10:09 pm

Code: Select all
. 4 3 . . . . . .
9 . . 1 . . 4 . .
8 . . . 5 . . 3 .
. 6 . 8 . . . . .
. . 5 . . . 7 . .
. . . . . 4 . 2 .
. 2 . . 7 . . . 6
. . 1 . . 6 . . 5
. . . . . . 9 8 .

This one has ER rating 7-5. At first I thought because of one Nishio chain. But it was an Aligned Triplet Exclusion, what boosted the rating.

Yes, it's a fruitful pattern. Here are two more of note:

Code: Select all
 . 4 9 . . . . . .
 1 . . 7 . . 8 . .
 5 . . . 2 . . 6 .
 . 2 . 4 . . . . .
 . . 8 . . . 5 . .
 . . . . . 3 . 9 .
 . 3 . . 9 . . . 7
 . . 6 . . 5 . . 1
 . . . . . . 2 4 .    SE 8.9

Note here the 1-4, 5-9, 2-7 and 6-6 symmetrical patterns.
Code: Select all
 . 2 1 . . . . . .
 9 . . 5 . . 6 . .
 3 . . . 4 . . 8 .
 . 4 . 3 . . . . .
 . . 8 . . . 9 . .
 . . . . . 7 . 2 .
 . 6 . . 8 . . . 4
 . . 5 . . 2 . . 3
 . . . . . . 1 7 .    SE 9.1

A nice pattern. Very easy on the eyes. It reminds me of the play-figures in: Man, don't get angry. With some sudoku you can say this too.

For my taste the rating is too high.
Code: Select all
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*
 | 49    6     7     | 1     349   2     | 35    8     359   |
 | 8     19    3     | 5     79    6     | 4     17    2     |
 | 2     149   5     | 8    #3479 #49    | 6     17    39    |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 49    459   2     | 7     8     3     | 59    6     1     |
 | 1     39    8     | 2     6     5     | 39    4     7     |
 | 7     35    6     | 4    #19   #19    | 8     2     35    |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 5     7     4     | 3     2     8     | 1     9     6     |
 | 3     2     9     | 6    #14   #14    | 7     5     8     |
 | 6     8     1     | 9     5     7     | 2     3     4     |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

Because of the marked unique loop you can eliminate 49 from r3c5, what gives you an xy-wing to eliminate 9 in r3c6 too. Thats all.

Thanks for pointing to the hearts colletion.

Your UFO and Somebody designs have very pleasant looks.

I also enjoy many of your designs, Claudia. Nice thread, with lots of creativity and originality.

My own drawings are still too rough, but will try to learn. (Have been focused almost solely on the inner content, the solution logic, not so much on the outfit - except for the pure mathematical "symmetry".)
