At the moment, "50% of the total score" is negative... so your score is currently -26 instead of -17...

    gsf, would you consider these minimal changes --
      bonus for last entry
        5 x submission ordinal
      bonus for highest rating
        = bonus for last entry ( not 5 x submission ordinal )
    -- if 5 seems inadequate,
    next make it 10 or whatever

bonus for last entry should make it possible for people with less powerful machines/software to win the game .... Therefore a percentage of the highest score is a good choice. It is an incentive for searching & posting more puzzles.

The highest rated puzzle should have a higher bonus but shouldn't be as high as the last entry bonus. "2x current bonus" my suggestion.

If the highest rated puzzle bonus is similar to the last entry bonus then that will put off some people from targeting the last entry bonus if they joined later in the game or becuase the person who submitted the highest entry is well ahead.

some good comments on the highest and last entry bonuses
I think a percentage of the current total score for both would be good

we can use a few games to see what looks good

the initial percentages starting this game are:
highest 25%
last 50%

percentage bonuses only applied if the total score is positive
we can tweak the percentages as the game progresses

this won't be documented until it converges
