EDIT: your example is nor a pure non degenerated tridagon, It would not come in the output of the finder.

In fact, the prefix is the puzzle in minlex solution grid format. the grid is the output of the finder, with the tridagon in the four boxes bottom right, the box 9 having the main diagonal with one cell to clear.

For me, I have a pure tridagon if each of the 11cells of the pattern sees the 6 other digits. then, these cells have strictly the 3 digits at the start. Your PM is a pure tridagon for me. I assume that in most cases, the last cell in the main diagonal can be assigned as here.

If the solving path contains a UR step, the rating without a uniqueness rule is unpredictable.
.... This is not good news to define a cut off in the huge files produced by the tridagon finder.

SKFR with a switch off uniqueness function would have been useful as many 10.9s and lesser probably were lost as they were potentially upogradable to 11.5 when a clue was added !!
As a quick tridagon finder i used SKFR, basically anything over 11.0 and always 11.5 were potentially tridagon puzzles with BxB above 4.

I'm late on reporting this, but it seems like UR steps effect the ratings of almost all (90% ?) of mith's puzzles.

PGExplainer has a '-M' option, that disables uniqueness techniques ... to allow for rating puzzles with multiple solutions.
I had a program select 20 random puzzles from one of mith's big lists, and I rated the puzzles and thier T&E(2) extensions, with and without the '-M' option.

The results are below.
Only two of the puzzles retained thier high rating, when uniqueness techniques were allowed.

Thaks a lot blue. The tridagon field is very special, but your result could be true in other areas.

Here, so far, only “eleven” expressed an opinion on what is of interest, so I’ll try to take the view of a player.

The UR pattern is easy to spot for a player. Excluding the uniqueness rules from my rating is not something I would do. In your second list, it is clear that a simple UR changes the rating (rating 4.5)

In fact, I did not have the rating in mith’s file. I re rated all with skfr, (with the “uniqueness” rules), what can explain my surprise to see very low ratings

As a direct consequence, the cutoff in the huge files produced by the tridagon finder should be around 10.0/10.2.
So far I used 10.5 as cutoff to select puzzles of potential interest.

Having fixed several bugs, I restarted tests on potential tridagon targets.
BTW, one bug was because I limited the number of possible targets in the same solution grid to 20, without overflow control.

As a result, the output of the tridagon finder increased in size.

For the last 1073 targets, I got the following in average

97 grids per target with <=25 clues
5398 grids per target with <= 26 clues
more than 120000 grids per target with <= 27 clues
but with another bug to fix


Having applied a T&E()1 filter, I had to rate
3918 grids <=25 clues
156791 grids <= 29 clues

And with my filter at 10.5 (before blue’s post) I got

The 27 limit is too high to be general
The 194 “highs” with <=26 clues are attached to 26 solution grids, so one possibility to consider is to run the 27 clues finder on these grids.

The problem is when you expand the puzzle, by adding clues the rating can sometimes then goes up [to >11.5] ...and so Ive always disliked uniqueness techniques of any sort ...
The T&E test picked these up, and the BxB classifier does not get fooled either ...

The fact is that maybe 90% of the activity in this forum is dedicated to the different ways to solve a puzzle.
For them a "uniqueness" rule has the same value as others.
And out of eleven, an expert player, nobody came here to tell what to do with the billions grids produced daily by the tridagon finder.

For me, the debate on uniqueness techniques is not a theoretical, but a practical one. If your work is not compatible with such techniques, don't use them, if you play on the solving side, feel free to use them.

I had no tool to filter grids on the T&E property, I wrote a T&E(1) filter and I can now clear about 90% of the finder output. This left me with still too many grids to just think of sharing them.

I think that blue reacted to this post published some days ago.

For the last 1073 targets, I got the following in average

97 grids per target with <=25 clues
5398 grids per target with <= 26 clues
more than 120000 grids per target with <= 27 clues
but with another bug to fix

after the fix, the situation is somehow worse.
First, it was before around 1 200 000 and not 120 000
and the final count is 1 540 000 grids per target

so
the ratio 25 => 26 is 55
the ratio 26 =>27 is 285

it took one core x hour to produce the output of 13.8 GB, so the issue in definitely not the tridagon finder, but the cleaning of puzzles on criteria to define.

The target is/was SKFR 11.5 and above ... [ but now we see that many are missed because of the dratted uniqueness "blip"]
This was searching here for T&E2 BxB 6 and above and necessitated a search over 1M puzzles to find a few !

Your list includes groups of puzzles from the same grid - which expand usually to one puzzle with 30+ clues.
So essentially its possible to just rate one of these essentially equivalent puzzles. The puzzle is expanded whilst maintaining the rating ..

These Bxb > 7 did produce a few worthwhile puzzles but do get solved by eleven and others in the puzzles thread...

On my side, assuming skfr run, the job is over. This is part of my current process and 11.3 is a very high cutoff. The 11.5 posted are the only new that I got in my tests at that level.
I had a look at your next step. As nothing prevent from doing it directly, I assume that there is a problem with the runtime of it.

In fact, for me, skfr is already too slow and my T&E(1) step applied first saves time.
In the interactive game, I used another solver.

BTW, out of the "uniqueness" rules, I suspect other rules in the solvers to change the high ratings of a expand by singles only rule.
Take a Jellyfish, I see no easy way to prove that it would not crack a T&E(1) or more status.

I started here thoughts on how to do the "skfr" step in a better way, optimizing the T&E(1) step and running some solving steps in line with the desired selection.
