I did mean that apostrophes was the answer however the use of apo before trophes gives it the ("does not contain" or "without" ).

it would be interesting to see the answer turn out to be apostrophes, or the iPOD

I thought it would be too easy, I was hoping against hope that you wouldn't see it so soon, but wasn't to be.


Souvenirs = Trophy (must eliminate the y to fit).
Plural = Trophies (eye(homophone)-less = Trophies - i) = Trophes.
Mail = post
So therefore = A post trophes = Apostrophes.

'Does not contain itself' apostrophes does not contain an apostrophe.

Because I thought it may be too easy is the reason I didn't post it as 'What am I? (3)'.
