The comeback of brainteasers

Anything goes, but keep it seemly...

Divide? 58837068 = 2x2x3x3x17x127x757.

Scaliger? did stuff with calendars

Hmm:(

The number of Julian hours corresponding to midnight UT 31 st Dec 1999.
The Scalinger year was 6711. Incidentally Joseph Scalinger's father was called Julius Caesar Scalinger, a strange coincidence.

Julian hours = Number of hours since midday 1st January 4713 BCE.

Saw the 'leap' clue earlier, but it didn't register. Bug clue confirms it.

Don't know what Atticus Finch, Fingerling and Walter Sparrow have got to do with it.

Scaliger rather than Scalinger but I guess that the JC was referenced in the 'et tu, Brute?' quote.

Thanks for that why did I type Scalinger instead of Scaliger. (Thinking of Scaramanga perhaps).

I guess the Caesar clue could be that the Gregorian calendar was a stab in the back for the old style calendar as well.

I bet if you looked hard enough, you could find some sort of arcane connection between Scaliger/Scalinger - JD Salinger - Catcher in the Rye - To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee. 6 degrees of separation and all that. Sparrow and Fingerling are connected by the film The Number 23. Now what?

Well done Glyn.......

The clues were an attempt to get you closer to the fact that it is time related.

The number 23 is missing "ONE THING" it then becomes 24:D

Did anyone get what Atticus has to do with all of this ???!!!

Atticus Kodiak is a character of the 1999 novel Shooting at Midnight. Though it is probably not what tarek thought.:)

It's probably one of the ancient blokes from this page.

(There were also some ancient Roman "Letters to Atticus" published/translated in 1999. Just google the term.)

Glyn, why don't you post the one from the other forum and see the bright minds here have any luck with it?

You were almost there udosuk.........

When you said "to kill a mockingbird".

Atticus was played by Gregory Peck in the movie of the same name. This is in reference to Pope Gregory & the Gregorian calendar. it was 01.01.2000 in the Gregorian calendar.

I must admit this one is too brain-twisting for me.:)

The clues tarek wrote:"Look before you leap" said Fingerling to Atticus Finch.

Atticus replied with a raspy voice: "Don't forget Fingerling that you are missing one important thing!"

"I've acquired that one thing, I'm therefore complete. You can call me Walter Sparrow now" said Fingerling/Walter.

"Then DIVIDE it! What are you waiting for ?!" cried Atticus.

Nodding in disappointment, Walter sighed:"Et tu, Brute?!"

"What have you forced me to do Atticus ?!" said Walter in horror with the knife still in his hand.

"behold, This is when I'll unleash the bug" Said Atticus with obvious joy.

"This wouldn't have been possible without Scaliger you know!!" He then added.

At the end of the day it would be nice if tarek or Glyn could give a full interpretation of all of this, for the "thickies" as Bigtone53 mentioned. E.g. is the bug referring to the Y2K bug?

Just a quick comment. Finch, Sparrow and Peck definitely an avian connection then.

Thanks, I suppose it's a lot of fun when one figures out the answer by oneself.:)

Here's the new teaser:-

The sequence of numbers 461325, 4713256, 48132675 and 491327896 have a special significance, what is it? Also what is the next number in the series?

No idea yet but I suspect should 491327896 have been 491327856 or 451327896 since all other numbers have no repeated digits?:?:

Or is this twisting of trend an intended one instead of a careless typo?

Oh no not again another typo. I have a lot of distractions here.

You are right Matt the repeated digit was an error.

Here's the new teaser (again):-
