I suspect a hidden test to avoid closure before day 4.

Do you think that the minimum game elapsed time is 4 days ? (not an official rule)
This could explain the many times when we are waiting for g.r.emlin, thinking that it should close the game

Maybe in the last few years g.r.emlin realized that 2-bit players counter is sufficient and now persists against switching back to larger counter.
