Your solution is correct, obviously.

I completed a full study of 8x8 word squares.
There are only 77 symmetric 8x8 wordsquares, confirming your number...
and only 2 non symmetrics:

Hi JPF, congratulations on finding the 8 x 8 non-symmetrics. Can you confirm 0 symmetric 9 x 9 Word squares and are there any non-symmetric 9 x 9's ?

Yes, I confirm 0 9x9 symmetric Word squares.
More generally, there is no 9x9 Word squares such that word [row 1] = word [column 1].

The complete analysis of 9x9 non symmetrics will take about a week.

The study has been completed.
There is no 9 x 9 Word square with the dictionnary mentionned above.
