Actually, it's not so much that the bears come from the Arctic but that the Arctic comes from the bears. Arktos is Greek for bear so the Arctic is the place where you find bears but the Antarctic is the place where you don't find bears. Although you do find a few penguins (except for Pingu, who lives in an igloo which is, of course, an Inuit-derived word for snowhouse).
