What am I? (28)

Anything goes, but keep it seemly...

What am I? (28)

Curse that Sicilian, he has forced me to change my position, a move most disadvantageous to me.

What am I:?:

Let's narrow it down first...

Is it related to sport?

Is it related to astronomy?

I'm going to be pedantic and say no.

No.

Not a quotation.

I don't think so, you can always query it later if so.

Cec

A two part question:

"Past history of the Isle of Sicily" - I'm sure there must be but it's not relevant to the riddle.

"...such as a change in Government?" - No.

If you mean 2c5 d7 then it won't work unless you include fairies such as the fu-aad, MCC.

I did mean 2c5 d7.

You seem to be more au fait with the subject than I am, this is new knowledge to me:idea:

A fu-aad would be ok but what about a mao or nightrider:?:

Anyways, back to the riddle, underquark, you're on the field of play but have not reached the answer yet.

Are you "White" in a game of chess? You open e4 (King's Pawn moves 2 squares forwards), Black responds c5 (Queen's Bishop Pawn moves forwards 2) etc. and then one of the several variants of the Sicilian Defence unfolds.

You can't move c5 followed by d7 as you are White and Black's piece is on c5. Under the conventional rules of (Westernised) Chess, you can't take c5 either at the moment but if you allow "Fairy" pieces (either imaginary, hypothetical or from Chinese or other chess rule variants) you can use fairy piece called a Fu-aad which is allowed to move 3 squares in any direction. Your Nightrider (with or without black "Kit" car) couldn't take it either.

qv Wikipedia for Fairy chess pieces.
