Thanks Shakers re stinkers. However, the sudoku prog. won't run on a Mac which is where I'm at (and where I'll be staying).

Hi Tim,

You are quite right that the 3 in box 8 can only go in c6r7 or c6r8 and not in c4r8. I did get that last night, but as this thread shows it was a long night & I 'forgot' this logic.

Congratulations to Su_doku for detecting the X-Wings. Give that man/woman a cigar!

I think SteveF cottoned on pretty quickly.

A bit of a diversion was caused by the belief that row 7 had something to do with the operation of the X-Wings, but that's not right.

Anyway, good work all round.

This topic was started to find out how to solve a particular puzzle from The Times website, and that objective seems to have been achieved. The thread is very long, so I will be closing it off in a couple of hours' time.

If you want to continue the discussions, please use the "Solving techniques" forum - even if it's about a particular puzzle. (It won't be a Times puzzle, by definition.)
