we can go back through the status reports until the page count matches
and then I can go through the raw data to see if any posts are missing

its possible the bober and OnlineOrder posts
which were summarily deleted when setting up the new forum
skewed the snapshot taken one year ago

note that there are two sets of message deletes in play
deletes (by the delete button) on the old forum, and deletes (by not copying) in the new forum
what happens when a post in the middle of a forum is deleted -- do the first posts of subsequent pages slide back one page?
if not then we probably have our explanation

Impossible to be sure even if it had happened yesterday, but I think they spammed by creating new topics, not adding to our existing ones.

Interesting theory, maybe that's partly why deletes by users (for anything other than the last post in a topic) weren't allowed.
