50 x 5. udosuk edited before I did, that is another one that isn't marked 'edited" but is.

Edited to add: I would have been still playing, though my one post would look ugly, had udosuk not popped in and announced that he had edited my post. Under the rules I had an undeserved penalty as of then. (And some anger towards udosuk.)

It does not say for every edited post.

I don't have a better one except that moderator intervention should never be considered.

If I might add my opinion, I consider the penalty to be unduly harsh compared with the bonus points that can be gained by the hard slog of being the highest or last player. I suggest:


a 10 pts penalty for any post with an invalid puzzle, or for each post that has been edited one or more times

I am having trouble seeing why correcting your own mistaken post should be a penalty, before being pointed out by others "in the game".

If another player spots an error they should jump on it, whether to get their own bonus or to simply "rat on" someone.

There after a correction attempt should be a penalty, I just don't see a way to work this idea.

This does not come close to dealing with the problems with bad posts, because:

<There was a rating attached to that post.>
Who/when do we allow a post with the dis-allowed rating to be counted?
Who/when can a puzzle be posted with that SE rating?


I gave this a lot of thought.

The only change I can see being helpful is that moderator intervention is not considered. udosuk demonstrated that moderators can intervene

In any case the rules will not be changed for this game.

The penalty for an invalid puzzle (and obviously for a puzzle that has been edited) is necessary in the context of the "rush" at the beginning of the game.

A wrong puzzle breaks the rhythm of the game and must be avoided.
Each player has to be confident that a posted puzzle is valid.

50 pts was chosen as it is almost the number of pts given for the last puzzles.

I don't think 50 is too harsh.

Maybe the 20 and 30 pts bonuses for the highest or the latest could be increased.

Now, this thread was not designed to be a center of creativity in the art of points-counting ...
I think that all this whining is largely off-topic.

My opinion : double the pts for the last post, and the highest bonus is equal to the last post.
For example :

• the last post #35 : 35 pts + 35 pts (bonus) = 70 pts
• the highest post #20 : 20 pts + 35 pts (bonus) = 55 pts
