Moderator needed for latest spam issues

It seems we need another moderator to deal with the latest flow of spam.:( I could do it if everybody else is too busy.

To whom it may concern,

I support udosuk as being a forum moderator. Somebody is definitely needed to help keep out some undesirable posts and udosuk is a long time member who is polite, intelligent, tactful and most importantly for this issue, always around.

re'born, thanks for your compliments.:)

I did have several run-ins with other forum members in the past, so I'm not as good a choice as you think. Just somebody has to take down those spam posts and if nobody else wants to take the job I'll do it.

I think ronk or ravel can do this job well because they're also frequent visitors here with a long history and a reputation of a logical mindset. Or if Luna would like to come back I'm all supporting. You're not a bad choice either, but I wonder if that unfortunate incident a couple months ago has created any tension between you and the adminstrators (just joking).:)

Moderator needed for latest spam issues

To whom it may concern,

A number of names have been mentioned to fill the position of moderator, all of whom would receive my support. However it seems that udosuk is the only person to date who has actually agreed to take on this task to help get rid of this undesirable spam. I'm not sure what the procedure is and hopefully I can explain my thoughts.

To my knowledge, Luna was the Forum's moderator and I thought she did a very good job. However, for reasons which I am not aware nor do I need to be, then if Luna is no longer the Forum's moderator, then I would endorse udosuk to fill the vacancy for moderator as being a most conscientious and helpful member and who, as one member aptly put it, "is always around".

Cec, Luna stepped down as moderator in, I think, Sep/Oct 2006.

It might pay to send a PM to Realsudoku and ask them to appoint a moderator.

Thanks MCC for your comments. For various reasons I haven't been viewing the Forum as much as before and my apologies for not keeping up to date with what has transpired. After noting the following request in another thread I decided to throw my two cents worth in to hopefully lead to further action for a new moderator being appointed.

Frankly I'm in the dark as to what the required procedure is for a moderator to be appointed. If Realsudoku and/or the Forum's administration are the people responsible then I hope they will take steps to lead to the appointment of a moderator and hence eradication of this undesirable spam.

The procedure is:

PM the new site owner realsudoku to volunteer for the job.

Your new spambusters are Ruud and Udosuk.

That's great news. I was going to weigh in with my support for mods being needed also, but have been very busy installing 6 new Jeld-Wen windows and 3 patio doors (2 6 footers and 1 8 footer) on our house in the 100 degree heat and high (for us) humidity. We've finished the 3 doors and 3 of the windows and hope to be done all but the trim this Sunday.

Ruud, I've sent you a PM. If you can please give me a short reply.:)

BTW thanks everybody for your support. Together with Ruud I'll try my best to keep this forum away from spams, unwanted advertisements etc.:)

Thanks udosuk and Ruud

Perhaps I look at the wrong pages but I have never seen any spam on the forum. Perhaps I would not recognise it if it bit me!

Bigtone, I suppose you're like me and didn't go to the links that AndrewAZ posted. I simply have too slow an internet connection to get bogged down going to sites that may or may not interest me.

It will be nice to have procedures in place to prevent these kinds of inconveniences imo.

There are tones of George Orwell's "Big Brother" here.

Likewise, I have a slow internet connection and did not click on AndrewAZ's links, but I would not have classified them as spam. If they had been links to porn sites, which nobody mentioned that they were, then indeed delete them, but, as I suspect, they were simply links to video clips that AndrewAZ found amusing then they should have been left for people to click on or not if they felt inclined to do so.

AndrewAZ may have been over enthusiastic but a simple word in his shell-like could have solved the problem.

Spam = Porn, pharmaceuticals or financial products.

Hud, you do not have to click if you do not want to.

I do not like sports so should I ask that all sports posts or links to sporting subjects be deleted just because I don't like them:?:

MCC, some of his titles were vague and you almost had to go to the site to see what they were about. There're many subjects that I don't check into if I believe they won't interest me. Well, it's off to the golf course now.

Perhaps that insinuation is a bit dramatic considering this is a just a Sudoku forum.

I haven't a clue what were in AndrewAZ's links, so I don't know whether they had anything to do with porn, pharmaceuticals or financial products. However, I don't think the definition of spam should be limited to these subjects. To me the relevant point was that he created several threads in multiple sections of the forum each containing a unique post with links (as opposed to the sports discussions which are more or less limited to 1 or 2 threads). While it has never become a problem here, I have frequented forums where people doing this more regularly made it extremely difficult to find what was new (think 20 or so of AndrewAZ's new threads a day, driving the real threads off of page 1 or 2).

In the end, I really doubt Ruud or udosuk will be in the business of deleting relevant posts of interest to the forum members. Otherwise, we will stand up against our oppressors and take back the farm (oops, wrong Orwell).:)
