Killer Sudoku

Postby Pi » Wed Aug 31, 2005 8:31 am

wow aren't these fun, i did the first gentle one in 14 mins which i am quite pleased with although it is still a lot slower than my average feindish times, they are much more fun than the standard sudoku and i look forward to seeing the samurai killer one day! I will buy the killey book next time i am in town.

Thank you Wayne!

I haven't started mine yet, but they look interesting.

Due to the format, it won't be possible to post them on here if we get stuck, and I wouldn't have thought it would be easy to come up with a program to help solve them either...

I am a novice at making programs but i did make spreadsheets that make it very easy to do most sudoku, i will begin one for these this afternoon

can you post an image on the forum?

if you just put in the numbers we could look in our newspapers for the rest

Great fun, plus it requires some elementary maths.

At the moment I'm not enjoying them as much as regular sudoku. A little too much adding up for my liking, plus I'm completely stuck on the Tricky one, having filled most of it in, which isn't helping.

PS: I don't think these ones are actually from Pappocom, are they? So it's no good thanking Wayne for them (except in the sense that if he hadn't started making regular sudokus here, we probably wouldn't have these new ones either).

I think the instructions are a bit dodgy. "the only way of making 24 in 3 cells is 7,8 & 9". If the three cells formed an L-shape and crossed three boxes you could have 9,6 & 9.

Yes, I thought that was a bit funny too.

Loved it, right up my street. Would someone mind telling me where the 'Tricky' one was though? The only one I found other than the one on the back page was the one on the front cover and to my shame I went wrong somewhere on that. Will retry it later.

Oh, and no, they're not made by Wayne. It says on the side who created it, sounded a bit Japanese to me. Could be Wayne's got a pseudonym though.

And by the way, did anybody else find today's 'Fiendish' vacuously easy? I'm willing to accept that I may have just happened to find the next cell first time every time by sheer fluke, but it did seem a doodle to me.

Brace yourselves, looks like it's seriously gonna rain up here...

Yeah, I found it rather pathetic too. I think it was a sinister plot to get us done with the normal puzzles quickly and move us on to the Killers, thus hopefully getting us addicted and upping their book sales.

There are another five Killers inside T2, on page 5. Gentle, Moderate (which I'm doing now and seems trickier than the Tricky), Tricky (which I messed up, but managed to fix), Tough and Deadly. Reminds me of the settings on the Lemmings games.

We had some pretty hefty rain up here just now too.

There is a prize of a hand-held electronic su doku game and killer su doku book for the ten winners who send in all 5 puzzles by Sept 6th. There's still time to go and get a copy!
