A nice mixture of techniques. I need fins to solve it.
Can Multi Colors finish this one, anyone?

Hi

I was just curious.
It says there 1x sashimi x-wing and 1x skyscraper. Aren't those two the same technique??
At least that is what i always thought.

Code: Select all
# Skyscraper c35 => [r2c5]=2
*-----------------------------------*
|  2  . #2  |  .  . -2  |  .  .  .  |
| -2  .  *  |  . *2  .  |  .  .  .  |
|  .  .  .  |  .  .  .  |  2  .  .  |
|-----------+-----------+-----------|
|  2  .  .  |  2  .  2  |  .  .  2  |
|  .  . *2  |  2 *2- .  |  .  .  2  |
|  2  .  .  |  .  .  .  |  .  .  2  |
|-----------+-----------+-----------|
|  .  2  .  |  .  .  .  |  .  2  .  |
|  .  2  .  |  .  .  .  |  .  2  .  |
|  .  .  .  |  2  .  2  |  .  .  .  |
*-----------------------------------*

Because if you look at it this way it is a sashimi x-wing.

Correct me if i am wrong.

greetings

In defense of the person who listed those, he did not mean the same pattern at the same point of the puzzle.
There are always (except perhaps the absolute hardest) several paths to the solution. (I accept that there may be only one first step.)

Turbot is the first name (that I am aware of) assigned to the pattern that I think of as "skyscraper" which is certainly a sashimi x-wing as well as a host of chains.

Yep, you are not mostly wrong!

I wonder how long "always thought" can survive about anything.
I am guessing not long here!

Oh, yes. I got that far. I was just trying to understand the terminology properly.

Yeah well always has been about 1 and a half month for me now.

For eliminations on <2>.

Option 1:

A) A Sashimi X-Wing elimination for either [r1c6] or [r2c1] ... but not both.
B) [r2c5]=2 eliminates [r5c5] and either [r2c1] or [r1c6], respectively.

Option 2:

A) A Skyscraper elimination for [r1c6] and [r2c1].
B) [r2c5]=2 eliminates [r5c5].

I chose Option 2 !!!

The Sashimi X-Wing in my list was for an important elimination on <3>.

Bottom Line: A Skyscraper can be viewed as two, concurrent, 1-fin cell Sashimi X-Wings in the same rows/columns. It saves time!

And was described way before fins, and sashimi anything.

Turbots are hard to spot, hard to ignore!

Some fins, odds and ends and a UR and a bug. Kinda fun!

I should have saved this for Easter, it looks like a bunny head.:D

There is at least one jellyfish here. I say that because SQ and SE both see one, just not the same one.:)

Oh, and lots of other patterns, some with fins.

I'm thinking that you will need to find a finned jellyfish.
Oh, and a bunch more patterns.:)

Oww.

SE and SQ think you will be very busy. SA and SS quit.

Code: Select all
. 9 6 | 3 . 2 | . . .
7 . . | . . 9 | . . .
2 . . | 7 5 . | 6 . .
---------------------
9 . 2 | . . . | . 3 7
. . 8 | . . . | 2 . .
3 7 . | . . . | 8 . 1
---------------------
. . 9 | . 2 1 | . . 5
. . . | 8 . . | . . 3
. . . | 9 . 5 | 1 2 .

I doubt that I will solve this, at first try.
When I get stuck (I use paper) that puzzle goes to the back.
I often solve "stuck" puzzles later.
