Women's Pyjamas (50% off!)

Postby Mathimagics » Thu Jan 03, 2019 6:07 pm

(available in size 54 only)

They don't make shows like Are You Being Served? anymore, for which we are mostly thankful! 8-)

But "WPJ's" is in fact the acronym for my latest multi-dimensional construction. I give you SudokuWPJS, the 6D Sudoku puzzle!

Each cell in this fiend belongs to 6 houses, and so we have 54 houses all up:

  • W = SudokuW (Windoku)
  • P = SudokuP
  • J = Jigsaw regions
  • S = Sudoku (rows, columns, boxes)

And all this in a newspaper-friendly format:

The puzzle is minimal, but requires only singles to solve. I have marked the 4 Windoku "normal windows" to make them clearly visible. To show all of the windows, we need to label them, and so I have provided the labelled form also:

With hidden singles it only needs 2 passes to completely solve it. It quite rare on normal sudoku.
Would be fun if you found one that solves in one single pass. (Every digit can be filled with hidden singles before any other move.) With more constraints that would be easy.
And the next step is every digit can be found with one single logic move on the first pass on a normal minimal sudoku.

Ok, I will look for a minimal, one-pass, hidden-singles-only case …
