Windows Vista

Anything goes, but keep it seemly...

Windows Vista

Postby 999_Springs » Sun Nov 18, 2007 2:46 pm

What are your opinions on Windows Vista? I have some experience of it, and I am thankful that I still have XP installed on my home computer; I hate Windows Vista. Documents take a much longer time to print, logging on takes twice as long, the familiar buttons on some programs are not there, and my favourite downloaded game runs at 6000 milliseconds per frame instead of the expected 8 to 20, and I lost one document.
Despite being relatively new, the search "I hate Windows Vista" in Google yields 238 results (239 after I post this), compared to 176 for "I hate Windows XP" (177 after I post this). Is there something (bad) I missed about it?

100th post!

I bought a new computer a month ago and it HAD vista installed.

I tried for two days to get things working. Some programs I use daily would not run. Many other things were too difficult to use. Installing new programs was unpleasant.

I put XP on in place of vista and am quite happy.

Last week at work I was in a class and the IT guy was there most days trying to get vista to do what was required of it. He and vista were both "trying".

He did get it beaten, mostly, so I guess it is possible?

If like me you are too lazy to move from AOL, Windows Vista is a real disaster.

You need to get AOL version 9.0 VR to be able to connect to AOL but of course, 9.0 VR is only available by download .........

My computer doesn't have the specs for Vista right now, so have been and am still quite happy with XP. Sounds like I'm not missing a whole heck of a lot.

Personally I don't mind Vista; a few old programs don't run, so I use Virtual PC to run XP within Vista for them. Apart from that, I haven't had any problems, and I use it for several hours every day.

"downgraded" may be the Microsoft terminology
    wouldn't you say you've upgraded ?

Recently I used a laptop with Windows Vista newly installed. I timed how long it took to get from the logon screen to load the Internet.

7 minutes and 46 seconds!!!

I say the same thing every time another windows comes out, but its true. We recently bought some old Compac-33 clunkers for a lab and were AMAZED how fast they booted, so amazed that we took one apart to confirm it was really running at 33 MHz. Of course, I remember complaining about 3.1.

When Windows 95 came out, somebody said it's better than Windows 3.1, but still not as good as DOS.

My sentiments exactly.

I recently discovered that the fact that I can't find "3D pinball: space cadet" on Vista is not because of my inability to find it, but that it had been removed. UGH. Why would they do that!?
