Windoku X Solo Killers

Postby HATMAN » Fri May 05, 2023 4:21 pm

I've always liked Windoku X interactions for Killers. But too much information is given, so either you do zero killers with very few cages, or KiMos.

Hajime's Solo idea is excellent as leaving out the nonets makes the information level more reasonable.

Windoku X Solo Killer 1

Reasonably hard about 1.0 on the assassin scale.

Windoku X Solo Killer 2

Harder about 1.2 on the assassin scale.

4 Windows
+ 5 obscure houses

can be re-arranged as 9 boxes

oops

right, can't be re-arranged

but the 4 Windows
do imply 5 more (obscure) houses

Even without the diagonals if you rearrange it you split the killer cages, and disjoint cages are very difficult for human beings.

Definitions to make it bit easier.

I do not understand above code (Sudocue also use it). Where is an explanation?
I do understand the code in http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/killer-sudoku-technique-question-t41427.html#p334443
What is the commonly used killer code?

A bit trial and error in the target application then you find:
Number is killer group
Number \ 256 = sum value
And then pastable support in solver is easy.

Thanks. Easy. And 3x3:d:k stands for? Are there variants?

d = diagonals
k could mean killer but without it SumoCue won't accept it.

The 3x3 part is the size of each box. Number of rows then number of columns.

The Sumocue killer format is described in this thread: http://www.sudocue.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1687

Thanks for the links. Back to the puzzles.

I tried to solve #1 manually.
In row 1&2 all cages add up to 86. So r2c7=4 because this cell was not included in the cages.
Evenso for row 8&9 cages add up to 86 so r8c3=4.
Evenso for col 1&2 r7c2=6 and for col 8&9 r3c8=8.
And than r7c3=3 and r3c7=2 because of last cell in cage.

Q1: how to proceed? Without too much guessing.

There are only 3 possibilities of digit "4" in windoku region 4 (W4). I tried them all. Got stuck.
In cage with sum=11 down right the only possible candidates are 1235 in 4 cells. And r89c5=89.
The 4*4 square cages sum up to 68. Without the W4 only 23 sum for 7 cells. Only small numbers possible there.

Q2: is there some software for guidance for WS(X) puzzles?

    thanks for starting #1

is it meant to be solved without "pencilmarks"?

    some more observations:

    the 4 for anti-diagonal (/)
    is in r159,
    - so the 4 for diagonal (\)
    is in r456

sums for other 2 rows or columns
    e.g. r34
    give some exclusions,
    which may be useful?

Windoku house numbering (W):
955596669
711172227
711172227
711172227
955596669
833384448
833384448

Indeed it can not be in r1 or r9 because all 3 cells with "4" in the /diagonal are in W9
6 possibilities where r5c5=4 spans 2 possibilities at the same time.

Exploring r5c5=4
r6c6<>4 and a 4 is locked in W4 in r7c6 and r7c8, so r7c9<>4
The only 4 in c9 left is r3c9=4
The only 4 in W1 left is r4c2=4
Only 3 "4"-s to place.... but....
Have to explore r4c4=4, r6c6=4, r1c9=4, r9c1=4
I hesitate if I have the needed insight for a puzzle that should be able to solve without pencilmarks
