Where can I purchase a Sudoku book?

Postby SuperMaliciosa » Fri May 20, 2005 12:57 am

I want to purchase a Sudoku book, but cannot find it in any Barnes and Noble store in Ny. Can anyone tell me where I might find one in NY?

A US Sudoku book by Pappocom will be available in US bookstores in a few months - but I can't be more exact than that.

You could order "The Times" Sudoku Book 1 from www.amazon.co.uk , but shipping would be expensive. It is not available from www.amazon.com.

In the meantime, you could download the Sudoku program and use it to print out puzzles, for solving with pencil and paper. Of course, you end up with a lot of loose leaves, which is not as convenient as a book - but it might be better than nothing in the meantime?

Most good bookshops also have the book for sale. I picked a copy up 2 weeks before it was scheduled to be released. I also believe that it is No6 in the book "charts" (that was on Tuesday when I saw it). Go to a book store, if they dont have it get them to order it.

ISBN 0-00-720732-8

Does anybody know if it would be available in Australia, and if so, where?

Try a book shop. I thinnk that ISBN numbers are international and each book has a unique number, So write the one I posted in my last post (2 above this one?) take it to the shop and ask them to oder it.

I'm not sure that ISBN's are that international, so to be on the safe side I'd take the full title of the book with you too : The "Times" Su Doku: The Utterly Addictive Number-placing Puzzle: Bk. 1
Wayne Gould

Which is what it's called here. Sometimes they change the title of a book for the American market (or vice versa for the British).

As for availability in Australia? No idea how you'd find out about that, except for asking the bookstores where you live.

Luna

PS this website http://www.nikoli.co.jp/en/ ships to both Australia and US. Interestingly it also states that Gekikara is a Super Hard Sudoku, for those who find the Very Hard in the Program too easy

The ISBNs are international and effectively unique, other codes you see used to identify books just embed the ISBN (e.g. European Article Numbers prefix the ISBN with 978 which means "book" in their coding system). The computerised index commonly used by booksellers can search on ISBN even if the seller actually prefers UPC or EAN for their inventory purposes.

Just checked the Dymocks website, they are selling it for AUD$16.95 - don't know if there's a Dymocks in Mudgee though (although it should be a natural addition to all that wine in the region). You can also order off the Dymocks website and they'll post it out to you.

I live in Michigan, and my efforts so far have led me to believe that books will not be available here until fall, however, I checked out the site referred to by lunababy and ordered 2 Gekikara (super hard) sudoku books from Japan delivered to the U.S. for less than $20 (about $19.83). I won't receive them for about 3 weeks so I don't know if they really are "super hard" or if they follow the same Pappacom format (unique solution, no trial and error, etc.).

Newmarket Press will be publishing two (vol 1 & vol 2) in August '05; they'll be about 320 each.

Hope this helps.
