We have a winner, well done Andrewd.

The answer is of course
"Cutty Sark".
Which means a short shirt.

"Take a nip" = whisky = Cutty Sark.

"A cup of tea
If there's any china about."

= China tea = tea clipper = Cutty Sark.

I'm pleased someone came up with an answer to this. MCC's initial quote obviously held the key to work out what the garment was but I'd never heard of a "Cutty Sark" before. Nice going andrewd.
