Are they items used in sports/games?

A peg is used in croquet.
A jack is used in bowls.

Maybe the others are items aimed at in other sports.

Or alternatively -

Peg is another name for Margaret
Kit is another name for Kathleen
John is another name for toilet
Jack is another name for John
Fair Maid is another name for dried fish

ANS: Dried fish by any name at all should be flushed down the toilet.

Mine's the Millennium Edition revised by Adrian Room.

Cec and Emm, they're not nicknames.

Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable wrote:Ignis Fatuus - The 'will o the wisp' or 'Friar's lonthorn', a flame-like phosphorescence flitting over marshy ground (due to the spontaneous combustion of gases from decaying vegetable matter), and deluding people who attempt to follow it; hence any delusive aim or object, some Utopian scheme that is utterly impracticable. The name means 'a foolish fire' and is also called 'Elf-fire', 'Jack o'lantern', 'Peg-a-lantern', 'Kit o' the canstick', 'Spunkie', 'Walking Fire', 'Fair Maid of Ireland', 'John in the Wad'.

Well done udosuk - That was too easy, I'll have to find something harder:D

I think somebody else will actually claim that he/she answered first in touch...
... and deserve a gold medal or such...
... which frankly I don't care much...

I know you’re smart at Sudoku
though your poetry’s not so hot
but I’d give you a medal
for giving it a shot
