What am I? (11)

Anything goes, but keep it seemly...

What am I? (11)

This is one I heard a long time ago and you may have come across it yourself.

What is more evil than the Devil
What is greater than Jesus
The poor have it
The rich need it
And if you eat it you will die?

What am I:?:

Wow, this sure is a difficult one.

I tried a lot of different answers, but nothing seems to work.:(

So, assuming we can ask for clues:

Are you a single word?

I got the answer, so I'm going to PM to check it so everybody gets the chance to work it out.

Ain't I nice?:D

I hope the answer is not the Moon....

I'll try several guesses: Light, Fire, Sun, Moon, Luna:D

I know the answer of this one... But I think the first one who "answered" this correctly was Ruud... (Sometimes a sad face can be really deceiving...:!: )

Nothing is the answer.

Luna PM'ed me the answer and since she posted first, I'm going to award first prize to Luna. Well done, and since she kept quiet and did not post the answer to give others a chance of solving it, an extra gold star.

Re Ruud's post - I think he was just being honest in his reply and had not really got the answer.
If he was being very subtle about it, he should not have added the last two lines.

I think that we should be told.

First, it is not me, but Google who found the answer. Being a devout atheist, I was not convinced by the opening lines of the riddle, so I used the phrase "seems to work" in stead of "is correct". The follow-up question was part of the camouflage. If I left it out, my post would have lost its subtlety because it was so out-of-character for me not to be asking questions.

Having said that, I am happy to yield my points to Luna. From past experience, I know it is good to have a little credit with a moderator.:D

See, I was right in assuming Ruud knew the answer all along... It got a bit sussy when he opened his post with the sentence:

I'm a non-believer myself but I cater for all sorts, I not a '(....)ist' - insert appropriate prefix.

I see there is an oxymoron among us - devout atheist.
