What am I? (10)

Anything goes, but keep it seemly...

What am I? (10)

Postby MCC » Sat May 20, 2006 9:37 am

What is the connection between these words?

Blue: Weld: Ash: Savage: Sergeant: Revue: Noah.

'What am I (9)' was put to rest, will (10) go the same way.

Don't worry if you find this one hard, it could take days for you to solve it.

Brilliant answer - Not right but brilliant:D

Is it too obvious, not for me it isn't, if I had thought of it first it's something I would have employed in a riddle.

So I will award emm 5 points for a very good alternate answer.

In the absence of rules or guides, almost any words can be linked.

Blue Arc Trio is a jazz group: Link
Arc weld
Arc Ash Melting System Link
Noble is The Arc of Greater Indianapolis: Link
Noah's Ark (or Arc)
etc.

That is true if you're only making a single guess at a connection, but rules and/or guides can be acertained as the solving progresses. Lines of enquiry can be eliminated or expanded as more clues become available.

So the more attempts people have at trying to solving the riddle, the narrower the field of investigation.

The connection is more prosaic than the line you've taken underquark.

One thing I've noticed is that people fail to ask questions, it's as if they feel they have to come up with the answer without 'further clues'.

It could take days...

There are seven words in the list. How about linking these to seven days of the week.

Monday - Blue (song by New Order)
Tuesday - Weld (actress)
Wednesday - Ash (day at the start of lent)
Thursday - Savage (??)
Friday- Seargent (character from Dragnet)
Saturday - Revue (film/tv show)
Sunday - Noah (??)

There are a couple of gaps here but is this on the right lines?

Ah, Noah Sunday and Thursday Savage are Thespians. Blue Monday Productions are a film production company. Honeysuckle Weeks (Foyle's War etc.) is nice but I see she hasn't been mentioned yet.

...It could take days...

A major clue was in my first post and as jimbob has stated, the connections are the seven days of the week.

So, first prize goes to jimbob, well done.

The list I had were all Thespians, believe it or not.

Blue Monday

Tuesday Weld

Ash Wednesday

Thursday Savage

Sergeant Friday

Saturday Revue

Noah Sunday

And a bonus point for underquark for mentioning Honeysuckle Weeks (her real name), I should have thought of, and included her in my riddle.
She has a younger brother, Rollo and a younger sister, Perdita.

Jimbob - First.
Emm - second.
Underquark - third.
