Virus Issue?

Postby jesser » Mon Nov 19, 2007 7:14 pm

I purchased Pappocom Sudoku, perhaps a year or so ago, and have been using it regularly ever since.

Today when I attempted to continue working on a game that I had started last night, my antivirus software (AVG) popped up a warning that it had detected a trojan. In the process of repairing the problem it erased the Sudoku executable.

Is this a known problem? If I reinstall am I likely to have the same issue? What's going on here?

There have been similar reports with possible solutions in the following threads:

This forum is no longer affiliated with the Pappocom sudoku program. For support issues, you should check the new website http://www.waynegouldpuzzles.com/

FWIW, my AV software reports periodically that it blocked an attack while I'm visiting this forum. It reported it twice during just this log-in session. The source may simply be attacking any active address assigned to my ISP, but it's possible that there's another explanation.

AVG recovery - install Sudoku 1.1 update

Postby akosugi » Tue Nov 20, 2007 9:23 am

I am running AVG Free Edition had Sud.exe reported as being infected with Trojan horse Generic_c.FJB on Monday Nov 19. My purchase of Pappocom Sudoku program was made in Feb 2007.

I have been able to recover by

- Opening AVG Control Center
- Opening AVG Virus Vault
- Restoring file Sud.exe to original location

- downloading and installing Sudoku 1.1 update

The EXACT same thing just happened to me, one day later. I followed your instructions and was back up-n-running in no time. Thanks for posting the fix.

Play it online, that's much easier! ;-)
