Trying to link to other topics

Postby Scott H » Sun Aug 14, 2005 5:27 am

I've seen several messages that link to other threads. I'd like to be able to do that. This is a test message I'm fiddling with doing that.

If the last word links to a thread "Help with Fiendish puzzle" in the Solving Techniques group, I succeeded. If not I could use some help in creating links.

Attempting to create that link [url]here[/url].

Hmm, no luck. Any help appreciated.

1. How do I get the URL of another thread? When I view a thread I only see "http://sudoku.com/" in my address bar, but nothing specific to the particular thread I'm viewing.

Can one link to a particular message in a thread, or only to the thread.

2. How do I "attach" (is that the right word?) a URL to a word like "here" in a message?

Thanks in advance.

use
[url=http://www.somewhere.com]Here[/url] (and make sure BBCode isn't disabled.)

Thanks! Still trying to figure out how to get the URLs for forum topics. I see them in my status bar (IE 6.0) as the cursor moves, but they don't show up in the address bar where I can copy them.

After a bit of fiddling, this seems to work: instead of navigating to a topic normally (by just clicking), right click on the topic and select "Open in New Window". The new window has the topic URL in its address bar.

Now a test, trying to link to another topic here.

Good, seems to work. Thanks!

if you start at www.sudoku.com/forums,
you'll see the Address Bar properly updated.

even more useful is the URL for a specific post - see Hamlette (2005.Aug.12)!!
right-click the little icon [Image Posted: 2005.Aug.25 Thu ] and Copy Shortcut.

Thanks Pat! I got a specific post in the address bar last night, but wasn't sure how I got there. Very useful to know the clean way to do it. Thanks!

new links in the Forum -- quite annoying!
      old said "forums"
      new say "boards"
all the old links now fail

Broken Forum Links - Fixed

Postby realsudoku » Thu Jun 14, 2007 8:18 pm

Hi all,

The broken links within the forum threads have been updated and should be working.

We apologize for the inconvenience - we recently moved the forum - and inadverently broke old links.

Please let us know if you have any issues and we'll try to respond as quickly as possible.

Thank you,

Postby Sudtyro » Fri Jun 15, 2007 5:11 pm

All Sudopedia links to Players' Forums topics are now broken.
Can that be fixed?

This site was set up by Ruud, you could sent him a PM or you could create an account at Sudopedia and edit each link yourself.

IMO the responsibility for assuring old links remain useable lies with the party that changes its internet address.
