Nice solution RW....I know you couldn't help it.......

I was just reminded by another post of yours by the Narrow solutions thread........ I will search for them again as I'm sure I stumbled on a couple while sorting some of my generated puzzles.

Red Herrings !!

Postby tarek » Sun Jul 03, 2011 11:27 am

Nice one Pat,

This next one has a solution path that is challenging.

It would be interesting to see what is your Easiest/Shortest solution path :twisted:

Code: Select all
8...71....7....9..1..46..8....3.9.4.....18..8.2......3..8...5.......4.12.95.....
 . 8 . | . . 7 | 1 . .

4 moves here as well. I managed to bypass the Jellyfish with an XY wing but then you'll have to settle for an X-wing ...

I'm not sure if an Uniqueness technique can do better but I avoided that path.

tarek wrote:---I managed to bypass the Jellyfish with an XY wing---

i'm staying strictly within the "superior plus" definition
i.e. no XY wing etc

i chose to post champagne's puzzle because it needs so many moves —
  • 5 moves — insufficient
  • 6 moves — not known, do tell me if that's possible
  • 7 moves — sufficient

{ edit: } 6 moves sufficient when straying slightly beyond the "superior plus" definition —
allowing complex fish (Franken/Mutant)

Hi, Pat

Following your message in Pattern Game, I tried to look in a small batch (63000 puzzles of the current game 175) if they are some "superior plus" puzzles.

Can you verify if the list is what you ask for :
Code: Select all
.8.5.......6..1.7.2...6.9...6..8......87.65......3..9...5.9...2.2.4..7.......3.1.;ED=3.8/2.0/2.0;

3.8 = swordfish
the puzzle 4.0 uses also a swordfish and a hidden triplet

If this is what you are looking for, I can provide you many more... but quad or jellyfish are rare !

Best regards
