Sudoku Supplement - 22 October

Postby CathyW » Fri Oct 21, 2005 1:32 pm

Best laid plans and all that ...:!: How am I going to find time for everything else with 67 puzzles to do? Perhaps I'll let my husband do some of the easy ones:)

What's this? Are there 67 puzzles coming with the Saturday Times tomorrow?

Unbelievable. I have a three hour train journey to do tomorrow! Nice timing.

Yeah, there's a supplement of 67 various sudokus (Killer, Samurai, normal) tomorrow. I guess it's because, unusually, they don't have a free DVD to give away.

And there'll presumably still be the Samurai and the two regulars on the back page of Books, so that's 70.

Ditto - my Times 2 was missing today so had to collect it from the paper shop and the assistant had to search through three copies before he found one - seems like there was a batch without their T2s - but I had to have my sudoku fix before I could start work:!:

well, it arrived this morning.
I went direclt to the last page for the "most difficult killer so far".
target time was 50 mins, so I thought I was in for a challange.....
17 mins later ... done it:(
I hope there are some others worth doing..

Agreed, it seemed run-of -the mill but there are a goodly number of fiendishes to occupy the time.

I don't really want to mess up on the Samurai this time... But I have 3 chances to now:(

Which one is easiest?

I quite agree. Took about 20 mins. I didn't think it was any more difficult than their 'tricky' ones midweek personally. Classification's a bit wonky i think!

Yeah, 11 minutes for that Killer for me. I guess it's hard to rate them because there are just so many tactics you can throw at it. There weren't any nice 45-rule boxes you could fill in or single-cell cages, but it was still quite quick for that.

Edit: just saw Killer puzzle 58, with the big 45-cage taking up all of box 5. Genius!

You beat me Paul - 15 minutes was my time on so-called "Deadly". It didn't even need many candidate entries. Think I'll have to stick to DJApe's website for more challenging Killers!

As for the puzzle with the 45 cage for box 5 - that was the last box to be filled in when I did it but it was straightforward enough.

Think I'll try a few of the ordinary Fiendish now.:)

Also, am I just being dumb today, or is the first Samurai puzzle really difficult? I've not been able to solve it.

Edit: I tried a solver I found on it, and it hasn't been able to get any further than me (aside from a couple of numbers that I've now got, which don't help). Can anyone confirm that it's possible?
