Sudoku Stories

Postby OscarSeurat » Sat Sep 22, 2018 3:36 am

Hi,
Here is a rather unusual book of classic Sudoku puzzles whose entries form pictures of various objects. Each of the 101 puzzles is accompanied by a short essay on the depicted item (e.g., house, snake, lock, peace sign, etc.). Since the recognizability of the patterns was the main focus of the authors, the majority of the grids are easy or medium, and the puzzles spread randomly on the difficulty spectrum. The members of this expert forum would probably find 10% of the puzzles difficult. Below is one such puzzle (the “Tortoise” from the “Animals” chapter). Overall, a nice gift to raise interest in this surprisingly rich game.

I think SudokuExplainer's first hint will always be r1c6=5, so all puzzles will be rated /1.2/1.2
hasty thoughts, my statement is incorrect, see next post.
