Sudoku Size

Postby nj3h » Thu Aug 25, 2005 12:27 pm

I saw on another forum that someone asked for a 5x5 solver. Pappocom's excellent program does not offer this particular size. Of course, it has many other great size choices to choose from. As a suggestion, is it possible to allow the user just to pick any size from 4x4 up to 16x16 either square or rectangle with sides 4 through 16 cells?

Some sizes (e.g., 13x13) don't lend themselves to Rectangle puzzles.

Ever wonder why the program's Rectangle Picker is a somewhat complex way of selecting sizes? There is a reason ... wait for the next release of Sudoku!

I thought that only numbers that were prime numbers couldnt be done.

So from 16 onwards, you could do:

18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, etc just no prime numbers?

The maths wouldn't work properly

If you were correct, the number 22 for example would only allow you to create a grid 11x2 or 2x11 - which would be very thin and possibly too big - not impossible, but probably not very nice to look at.

Although the rectangle puzzles are nice i would much prefer a 16x16 as the squares add beauty to a sudoku

I would hope in the next revision that Pappocom would allow for the potential of displayingl 16 candidates in each cell so that all possibilities in a 16x16 grid can be entered. I really want to try a 16x16, but I want to have the capability of entering all candidates should there be more than 9 of them. In addition, the standard display layout of

0123
4567
89AB
CDEF

for cell candidates (if Hex display option was chosen) would sure be ideal.

Thanks for considering.

I Disagree slightly, i donn't like having a zero as one of the digits, it gets confusing when i am counting through potential candidates, why not for get numbers in the larger grids and have letter puzzles

Pi, there is an option in the program to print out letters only (works in all sizes of puzzles).

View, Game Options, Symbols, Letters.
