simple sudoku pencilmarks

Having problems with the forum software, or suggestions for improvements

simple sudoku pencilmarks

Postby JasonTutors » Tue Feb 21, 2006 5:42 pm

I am trying to learn software to help me with USA Today's 1/27 5/5 star puzzle. I can solve this puzzle on paper with the help of http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/viewtopic.php?t=3028&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=usa but my problem is this:

With simple sudoku I cannot enter pencil marks. With Pappocom's sudoku software I cannot verify the puzzle to continue play.

What am I not doing correctly in each of these programs as the users in the above thread clearly use software with this puzzle.

Thank you so much!

Are you saying that you can't "dub" the puzzle into Pappocom? If that's the case, I don't know what you should do.

Jason is correct that Pappocom software won't verify this puzzle - but it is a particularly hard one. Maybe whenever the upgrade comes we will be able to paste in 'unverified' puzzles and solve them anyway. Or the solver will take account of the many new techniques since the software was created and verify those that currently can't be verified!

This particular forum is meant to be for support about Pappocom software so don't think we can offer suggestions about SS here!

Thank you, Cathy. I have two questions about the pappocom software:

1. How do you copy the board as to be pasted in another place?

2. If I creat a library book as an XML file would this allow me to enter a non-verifyable puzzle (or would I run into a problem later when I have to verify the book)?

Pappocom software does not let you Verify invalid Sudoku puzzles (even if the puzzles are part of a Library Book) and that behavior will not change in the next release.

Hi Jason,

1. We don't have a copy/paste import system at present, but you can use the "Dub" feature on the "File" menu.

2. You'd run into the problem upon loading the library, yes. Our program makes certain assumptions about puzzles in order to work with them properly; we're not just being ornery!

Thank you all for your replies. I'm not sure if I phrased my paste question correctly. I'm wondering how to paste boards into the message area from pappocom software, not for importing. For example, in this post http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/viewtopic.php?t=3028
Several people pasted boards such as this (by CathyW):

Code:

I’ve read this link (http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/viewtopic.php?p=17121#p17121) and it suggests to me that you click on 'code' and manually type the entries, then click 'code*'

How do you enter above grids with pappocom software?

what about stuff like this from tarek? Is this done with pappocom software? If so, how'd he get the pencilmarks in if the puzzle won't verify?
Code:
*--------------------------------------------------------*
| 478 5 79 | 3689 89 1 | 2 3478 3469 |
| 178 3 179 | 689 2 4 | 5 178 69 |

| 2 17 1367 | 179 4 59 | 369 35 8 |
| 9 48 67 | 78 3 25 | 46 25 1 |

| 1367 179 4 | 2 179 369 | 378 38 5 |
*--------------------------------------------------------*
Candidates in r4c8 will force r9c8 to have only 8 as valid Candidates
r4c8=2: r4c8=2 => r6c8=5 => r5c8=3 => r9c8=8
r4c8=3: r4c8=3 => r9c8=8
r4c8=4: r4c8=4 => r6c7=6 => r6c3=7 => r1c3=9 => r1c5=8 => r7c5=7 => r7c2=2 => r7c9=3 => r9c8=8
Threfore r9c8=8

Thanks again for helping me learn to leverage the software!

hi Jason,

when you press the button "code" it inserts "[ code ]" (without the spaces) which you could type in yourself, you should then follow that with your pencilmarks, after that you should type in "[/ code ]" (again, without the spaces). anything between [ code ] & [ / code ] whould then turn green & are equally spaced.

my pencilmarks are generated by my solver, I'm sure that any software that generates them would suffice, I'm not sure which though....
