(Samurai) Two possible solutions? (The Times 6th Aug)

Postby Togidubunus » Fri Aug 12, 2005 10:58 am

I've just completed Samurai SuDoku The Times 6th August (I've been away — I'm not that slow), and it seems to me there are two solutions to puzzle "A". I might have completed it incorrectly, of course, but the number in A could be one of two. Has anyone else come across this?

The chances are that you either made a mistake somewhere, or else you haven't quite fully understood how Samurai puzzles work. Are you trying to solve grid A on its own? A useful thing to know would be, how far have you got with the other grids, particularly the central one? If you've completed the central grid, so that the box that overlaps with grid A is full, then there should only be one solution to grid A. If you haven't, then it's likely that you need to solve some more of the remaining grids before the correct solution to grid A will become apparent.
