Rather than adding a new "Sudoku: the game" section, I suggest adding "Interactive Games" to the existing "Sudoku: the puzzle" section. This would make the "index page" grow less.

the patterns game could then take two threads in "Sudoku: the puzzle/Interactive Games"
one ("Patterns Game") for the ongoing game, and another ("Patterns Game Results") just for the final tally for each game (posted by the referee)

I do not think that the patterns game hides other threads,
at most it hides it as much as a sticky thread
