this report had a tied entry scoring bug that was just fixed
the edited tally a few posts back has the correct T (tied puzzle/rating)
edit correct meaning that the first entry scores and the second is ignored, no penalty, no score

the notes are
  • B bad-pattern
  • E edited
  • I dup-puzzle-tie
  • M not-minimal
  • N bad-rating
  • P dup-puzzle
  • Q resigned-entry
  • R dup-rating
  • S successive-entry
  • T dup-rating-tie

note that SE ratings are not validated because of its poor performance on high rating puzzle

comments on the state transition timings before this game closes?

i missed the 9.0 by 15 seconds
the timestamps are within the same minute
  • 2007.Dec.9 15:12:44
  • 2007.Dec.9 15:12:59
i'm curious, do you check the seconds or just the minute ?

the status is gathered while not-logged-in
so only default setting are in effect
in particular, date/time does not contain seconds
Code: Select all

so a tie post may be <= 120 seconds from the first post
(because there might only be 1 second between 10:11 am - 10:12 am)

Some comments :

I don't understand why you want to use ZULU (almost nobody knows what it means) instead of GMT.

Pat's puzzle (9.0) is isomorphic to mine's, posted just before...

It will be nice to have the current rules referenced somewhere.

I personnaly think that the game will become a bit boring (same players, same winners, etc..) if no new challenge is infused from time to time.

Only puzzles with symmetry of order 4 (or more) should be considered.

zulu because of the g.r.emlin refs to aviation and the military
otherwise it would have been the iso UTC
Pat's puzzle (9.0) is isomorphic to mine's, posted just before...

good catch, "I dup-puzzle-tie" added , "R dup-rating-tie" retained
the stronger b]I[/b] is checked first, because two isomorphic puzzles (theoretically) must have the same rating,
but two puzzles with the same rating may not be isomorphic
It will be nice to have the current rules referenced somewhere.

I'll do that after one more round
no use documenting bugs
I personnaly think that the game will become a bit boring (same players, same winners, etc..) if no new challenge is infused from time to time.

I don't understand this -- the 1.5 challenge 0001 was to easy (too short time between successive entries)? or too long a wait after entries died down?
or fear that challenges with no human touch might become boring?
or something else besides matching SE ratings?
Only puzzles with symmetry of order 4 (or more) should be considered.

aha, that's a sticky point right now because sudoku -g has trouble finding higher order symmetry
that can be addressed after the accounting/timing kinks are worked out
one more round should do

Then let's use UTC. We have to avoid jargon so that the rules are readily understandable to potential players around the world.

but it does wget without logging in

appending -0800 before translating from post => zulu fixed the problem

-0800 is a valid assumption today,
but when the USA "springs forward" this may become -0700 ??
( and if the server moves to India, perhaps another change ?? )

suggestion -- always do login !! -- we know you can ( in order to post )

then you can set the Profile to Y.m.d H:i:s ( with separators ),
    or even YmdHis ( 14 digits ),
    and your choice of TimeZone

I feel the polling repeats too often (every 5 min) for doing a login each time (I'd like to stay under the radars)
the "All times are GMT +/- n hours" at the bottom of the page should be sufficient and current
setting the profile time format is appealing though

  • GMT +/- n hours --
yes, sorry, of course that will work
  • login every 5 minutes --
not needed -- login once and never logout !!

game #1 has been closed since 2007.12.11 09:15 (GMT)

so we're not following the above schedule --

good !!
players need a rest between games,
or it will become a fulltime occupation.
suggestion -- let's meet every Sunday for a new game

Suggestion -- let's not meet every Sunday for a new game. Some of us prefer weekdays, maybe others weekends. Keep it random so everyone gets a turn with respect to convenience (and time zone).
