This puzzle (Mauricio 4.6) is very nice to solve.
Code: Select all
 *-----------*
 |..1|2.3|4..|
 |...|.5.|...|
 |2..|.6.|..1|
 |---+---+---|
 |1..|.7.|..8|
 |.47|5.6|39.|
 |9..|.3.|..6|
 |---+---+---|
 |3..|.8.|..4|
 |...|.4.|...|
 |..9|6.1|7..|
 *-----------*
After simple basics:
Code: Select all
 *-----------*
 |5.1|293|4.7|
 |...|15.|...|
 |2..|.6.|.51|
 |---+---+---|
 |1..|972|548|
 |847|516|392|
 |9..|.3.|176|
 |---+---+---|
 |3..|78.|..4|
 |...|34.|...|
 |4.9|621|7..|
 *-----------*

Here you have a UR 48 in r36c46, so r3c6=7 (cannot be 48).

That gives 48 in r2c6 also. Then you have a unique loop 48 with the cells r23c3.
That means, 4 or 8 have to be elsewhere in box 1 and column 3.
In column 3 only 8 is possible in r8c3, solving the puzzle.

  • Is this puzzle isomorphic with Mauricio's 8.5 ?
  • Who can tell me how to check isomorphic ?

The easiest way to check if 2 puzzles are isomorphic is using Ruud's sudocue.

The fastest way is using gsf software, but I do not know the exact parameters, it is a command line solver, not graphical.

The puzzles are not isomorphic, as your puzzle in minlex-pattern form (the minimum puzzle between all isomorphic puzzles of it having the same pattern) is:
Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 1 | 2 . 3 | 4 . . |
| . . . | . 5 . | . . . |
| 2 . . | . 6 . | . . 1 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 5 . . | . 7 . | . . 3 |
| . 3 7 | 6 . 1 | 2 5 . |
| 8 . . | . 3 . | . . 6 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 7 . . | . 1 . | . . 9 |
| . . . | . 4 . | . . . |
| . . 9 | 5 . 6 | 7 . . |
+-------+-------+-------+    ER 8.5
The rating dropped, again.:D

My 8.5 in minlex-pattern is:
Code: Select all
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 1 | 2 . 3 | 4 . . |
| . . . | . 5 . | . . . |
| 2 . . | . 6 . | . . 5 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 1 . . | . 7 . | . . 6 |
| . 3 4 | 5 . 8 | 1 7 . |
| 7 . . | . 3 . | . . 2 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 9 . . | . 1 . | . . 4 |
| . . . | . 4 . | . . . |
| . . 5 | 9 . 2 | 7 . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
so the puzzles are not isomorphic.

Is my puzzle a new rating (8.9) or not (8.5) ?

We had the same problem in the past.
I don't see why we should change the rules during a game.
Your puzzle is not isomorphic to a previous posted one, you get a ER=8.9

The options to canonicalize puzzles with gsf's program are
-qFN -f%#0c

In a windows batch file (text file with .BAT extension) you have to write %% instead of %, e.g.
sudoku -qFN -f%%#0c puzzles.txt > puzzles.can

So you can start notepad, copy this line and save it as say canonicalize.bat in the folder of the gsf program. Then you can normalize puzzles by copying them to puzzles.txt and double click on canonicalize.bat in the explorer. 2 puzzles are equivalent, when the canonicalized forms (in puzzles.can) are identical.

Thanks, ravel, now I can canonicalize puzzles with gsf's program.
