Ok whoever's in charge now can you fix the ballsup you've made of this forum? There are many places where people have linked to other posts in the forum like for instance this really important post:
http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/viewtopic.php?t=3315&start=0
in the first message of the post there are 4 links for example:
http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/viewtopic.php?t=2793
none of them work.
Each poster could go editing all their posts so the links look like this:
http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/viewtopic.php?t=2793
but many people have made hundreds of posts.

If you do nothing you're in danger of losing the thriving community that you have no doubt spent some money acquiring.

Forum Links Are Fixed

Postby realsudoku » Thu Jun 14, 2007 8:17 pm

Hi all,

The broken links within the forum threads have been updated and should be working.

We apologize for the inconvenience - we recently moved the forum - and inadverently broke old links.

Please let us know if you have any issues and we'll try to respond as quickly as possible.

Thank you,

Thank you very much! We are all grateful that this problem was fixed so quickly.

The only problem left is the size of the window. Most sudoku discussions require the use of pencilmark grids, which are too wide for the 625 pixels window used here. Here is a typical thread from the "Help with particular puzzles" forum. As you can see the pencilmark grids are split in the middle of the grid and become unreadable. Without pencilmark grids providing help for puzzles and explaining techiques is virtually impossible.

The window is also too narrow for sudokupuzzles posted in lineform, which we have used regularly to save space when posting long lists of puzzles. Lately we have adapted the practise to post puzzles in lineform in tiny font, but this hasn't always been the case and there's hundreds of threads that now are too wide. For example The hardest sudokus-thread, which is one of the most read threads on the forums, now requires a lot of scrolling from left to right.

I guess most regulars here already know how to get a full screen view of the forum, but I'm afraid that the default window size with unreadable threads will scare away lots of newcomers. We would all appreciate it very much if full screen view could be made the default view of the forums.

[Edit: Interesting. Seems the links in this post automatically open a full screen view, so my examples doesn't really work... But you'll see the problem if you go to the threads the normal way.]

We will remove the ad unit on the Forum page early next week. We apologize for the inconvenience but are moving quickly to fix this problem.

There is also a problem for links given from the outside of the forum.

Here is an example :

is refering to a post here :

Using search results is now like getting only one result

Postby ronk » Fri Jun 15, 2007 12:24 pm

One can no longer "page back" to prior search results, and must instead repeat the search.

There must be a configurable time parameter that would fix this.

[edit: Great, it's working again ... and in less than 2 hours.]

broken links on external sudoku forum sites - fixed

Postby realsudoku » Mon Jun 18, 2007 11:00 pm

We have fixed the broken forum links that are posted on external sites. For example, the site:
http://www.sudoku.org.uk/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=29&post=11051

is referencing a sudoku.com post:
http://forum.enjoysudoku.com/viewtopic.php?p=9423#p9423

The above link was broken when we moved the forums over but it is now working.

Also, we will be removing the ad unit (right side) on this page so that the Forums page will appear larger and will no longer have horizontal scrolling.

Thank you,

yes, "page back" is temperamental -- sometimes it works, other times it says the page has expired.
    i always Open-In-New-Window,
thus the Search Results remain available

Once in a while I remember to do that, but old habits die slowly.:(
