Longevity potential now vs the past

People say ‘oh a long time ago people never lived past their 20s or 30s’. Okay that’s probably true but does that mean our lifespans have been extended? Most probably not… Hear me out! Even in the middle ages there were people who lived up to 90+ years. It was extremely rare but it happened. If their living conditions were good then it was much easier for them to survive for so long. Today’s life expectancy is higher but not because our bodies changed or we did something to improve them, no! It’s just that our environment is no longer so hostile. We can now avoid or even treat many diseases. So without so many external risks it’s no longer so hard to reach your 70s, 80s or even 90s. Have our bodies changed? No! Have we reached the peak of our biological potential? No, but we are close. Probably 150 is as high as we can go but there’s still so much to be done to make it consistent. Is living longer possible? Probably… But that would probably require altering our DNA.
what are your thoughts on this? :geek:
