Library book (sudbook): Time Trial 1

Postby Pappocom » Sat Mar 19, 2005 10:16 pm

A Library book called Time Trial 1 can now be downloaded from sudoku-com/libbooks.htm [ broken link ]

The Library book contains 10 puzzles: 2 Very Easy, 3 Easy and 5 Medium.

The idea is for you to work your way through the Library book, keeping a note of your solving time for each puzzle. When you have finished the book, add up your total time and post it in this forum ("Libary books"). You can see how your time compares to others'.

Library books can be used only with the Sudoku program from Pappocom. Read about the program at http://www.WayneGouldPuzzles.com/ or download it from http://www.WayneGouldPuzzles.com/sudoku/download/

For details on how to download the Library book, and what to do with it once you have, go to sudoku-com/libbooks.htm [ broken link ]

35 mins - I did it on screen, and must admit to the occasional red number, but not more than one per puzzle. I'll take a 5 min penalty for each (I'll guess it was 7), doubling the time to 1hr 10mins. Perhaps this should be a feature of the program if there are to be other trials. How about a coded output that can be copied and pasted here for Wayne to decrypt and convert to a validated time?

FWIW, I always have them turned off now (unless I working on a Very Hard that's eaten up too much of my life!)

Having seen the times, I think I may try these again, as I know I've come on since my first attempt!:)

Ah, OK. I hadn't explored the setup screens that far. I'll leave it a while to make sure I don't remember anything from any of the puzzles, and try again. What does FWIW mean?!?

I think that FWIW means: For What It's Worth

But what I'm wondering about, did the red flags lead you?

For example: assume you have only 2 possibilites for the number 8 in a certain box, and by accident you set the 8 in one, and find a red flag, did you use that knowledge to put the 8 in the other cell or not?

Yes, I'm sure it did - I don't see how it couldn't have. That's why I thought a time penalty would be fair. 5 minutes seemed reasonable as that is more than it took me to complete any of puzzles. Like I said, now I know it can be switched off, I'll do it again...

OK, I've done it again - 1hr 18mins. A bit longer than my previous adjusted time, but not much:D

I tried downloading this, but my computer didn't like the file. What program do I need to open it?

Library Book files have to be opened with the Sudoku program, available from http://www.WayneGouldPuzzles.com/
