It is a bit of a pain having to use the shift key to get an underscore for
each blank cell. Would it not be possible to set up the text string using
zeroes in place of the underscore and forward stroke (/) in place of the
plus sign? This would avoid use of the shift key. The software could then
convert the zeroes to underscores and the oblique strokes to plus signs
for compatibility with the rest of the suite. I presume that some checking
of the input is done already (eg max chars between plus signs and max
number of plus signs) so this feature could be part of that.

I don't think you are talking about Pappocom's Sudoku program, are you? If not, whose program are you talking about?
