Duplicate Ending

Postby crockin » Mon Sep 28, 2015 7:43 pm

Hi,
There's a version of Sudoku on the business software that I use and occasionally play. It seems like 50% of the time I'm left with 2 sets of identical numbers, but the same saying there is only one right answer. Can someone help explain how I identify the correct order consistently? In this case the 6 and 8 are seemingly interchangeable.

Thanks for the help

Code: Select all
4 9 1 | 3 2 5 | 6 7 8
2 3 7 | 4 . . | 5 9 1
5 8 6 | 7 9 1 | 2 3 4
------+-------+------
7 4 3 | 8 5 9 | 1 2 6
6 5 8 | 1 3 2 | 7 4 9
9 1 2 | 6 4 7 | 3 8 5
------+-------+------
8 2 9 | 5 1 3 | 4 6 7
3 6 5 | 9 7 4 | 8 1 2
1 7 4 | 2 . . | 9 5 3

This puzzle has two possible solutions. There is no way to choose between the two possibilities. Many would consider it invalid.

By the by, it is more convent for everyone if you post your puzzles as text, the way I just did, or alternatively as an image. Microsoft Word files can't be read by everyone.
