My initial solution was the same AXY-wing(37-4) as already posted by Steve, so returning to the drawing board I found this logic path.

Either an AXY-wing(37-1)with pivot (37)r8c9, pincers (17)r9c7 & (13=2)r4c9 => r9c9<>1,
or Kraken cell (123)r4c9 =>r9c9<>1,
or an ANT(125=3)r456c9 => r9c9<>1

ANT(125=3)r564c9-(3=71)r8c9,r9c7 => r9c9<>1

Ted
[I just realized my ANT() is essentially the same as that posted by Phil :!: ]

My final attempt to post a unique solution............... :)

Code: Select all
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*
 | 247    8      27     | 5      3      147    | 127    6      9      |

 | 23479  267    1      | 8      49     467    | 237   *45    *45=7   |
 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
 | 1289   126    4      | 69     7      5      | 68     139    123    |
 | 1289   3      569    | 469    1489   1468   | 68     7      125    |
 | 1789   167    569    | 3      2      168    | 4      159    15     |

 | 5      9      27     | 247    6      3      | 17     8      147    |

I'm not sure about this. How can 2 cells be populated with one 7? However, your solution is fine in reverse:

(4=3) r7c8 - (3=7) r8c9 - (7=45) r3c89

Phil,

I think Ted's solution is OK. I just had to expand the notation a bit so that I could understand it:

(4)r3c89 = (5)r3c8 - (5=7)r3c9 - (7=3)r8c9 - (3=4)r7c8 => -4 r2c8

I got no problem. ALS xz all day. The notation just says the two cells cannot both be (7).

Translation of Ted's expression:

Code: Select all
(45)r3c89 =ALS= (7)r3c9 - (7=3)r8c9 - (3=4)r7c8  =>  r2c8<>4
