Two years ago when I was learning Su-Doku I taught myself the hidden pair before the naked pair. Could it be to do with this?
If you like solving without pencilmarks, of course you'll find hidden subsets easier to spot than naked ones. It seems solving on paper (without pencilmarks) and solving using helper softwares (with pencilmarks) are 2 vastly different practices and you can't say which one is the better way. It's a matter of personal preference.
