Both puzzles were solved without recourse to forcing chains. I've printed this easy move from the second puzzle because it is not in Andrew Stuart's Sudoku X solver.

This is the other way of looking at pointing pairs on a Diagonal, which is one of the most basic X moves, and Andrew does implement.
