A record named "maximum" of Sudoku list

Everything about Sudoku that doesn't fit in one of the other sections

The one I remember has a similar result, but was a different puzzle. Even so, I really liked these fish so thought it worth posting just for the fish. Also, as you pointed out, it also provides a possible explaination for the high Nishio count.

Don't know.
Probably interesting for some solvers people.

In any case, that's the purpose of this thread and a nice challenge for puzzles designers.

I'd love to see this puzzle:!:

Judging by the filename on my computer, the puzzle I've worked with before is ...
Code: Select all
 . . . | . 1 . | . . .
 . . 1 | 2 . 3 | 4 . .
 . 2 5 | 6 . 7 | 1 3 .
-------+-------+-------
 . 1 8 | . . . | 2 4 .
 2 . . | . . . | . . 6
 . 6 7 | . . . | 8 1 .
-------+-------+-------
 . 4 6 | 5 . 2 | 7 8 .
 . . 2 | 1 . 8 | 6 . .
 . . . | . 7 . | . . .

... and it was posted by Mauricio on 9/3/2007, but I can't find it today. **

Although the empty cells and eliminations are a bit different, it does have the same unfinned jellyfish r3467\c159b5 and c3467\r159b5.

** Mauricio posted five puzzles with this pattern on the Programmers' Forums here.

I was messing around in the patterns game and I got this...

This Sudoku can be solved using the following logical methods:
56 x Hidden Single
3 x Naked Single
7 x Pointing
1 x Claiming
1 x Naked Pair
2 x X-Wing
2 x Hidden Pair
3 x Bidirectional Y-Cycle
3 x Turbot Fish
7 x Bidirectional Cycle
44 x Forcing Chain

This beats the previous record by 13. I know that SE finds the "simplest" move at each step, but I am very suspicious that it deliberately takes a roundabout way to solve these puzzles. Like going from A to B using sat-nav.
