I received this self-crafted sudoku yesterday from Bruce in an xls file. I publish a jpg with his permission asking to rate the difficulty of it. He has posted his puzzle on a sudoku group, but has not the response he deserves. In name of Bruce thanks for looking at it and feedback is welcome. Solutions and solving strategies are highly appreceated too.To motivate solving this, I solved it myself and found a special pattern in it, which helps solving large sudokus like this much easyer. I'll be surprised if anybody finds this too..

Thanks. Agreed, it solves in 20ms with singles only (five cycles in my program). Here's the same puzzle with some redundant clues removed. Now it's much harder.

I publish a jpg with his permission asking to rate the difficulty of it.

Bruce Manoly's puzzle is rated ED=1.2/1.2/1.2 (as alluded to in earlier posts).
Mike's modification is rated at least ED=12.4/1.2/1.2 - the sheer size of this puzzle means SE runs extremely slowly in the higher ratings, no final rating yet.

Mike's puzzle is lower than 12.4, my solver can solve this one while it can't normally solver above SE 9.5+, or is there a different rating for larger puzzles?
Multiple layers of of same difficulty chains increases the rating?

Solved with my solver in 100 seconds.

I agree with creint. I would estimate the rating to be between 9 and 10. My solver takes 18s.
